Autism is a Neruologic Disorder that takes many shapes.....Spectrum DIsorder..... The recent news about autism and vaccines stems actually from a Mitochondrial disorder that makes a child more suseptible to certain defects or reactions, autism being one of them, the theory goes that a child born with MD has a weak immune system, things like live vaccines, pollution and any number of things are introduced and the child becomes sick and/or has a reaction that leads to autism or any number of things really....My son was born with Autism, theres not a doubt in my mind....He didnt recieve any shots until 3 months because he had a cough and I was a nervouse ninny, I think the smartest thing for you to do is to ask your pediatrician for newborn/childhood screenings to rule out any disorders that could be aggrivated by ANYTHING, its the only way to make educated decisions about things like vaccines, foods, treatments and life. Not all docs like to do this though. I personally would rather have my son with Autism than have a child with chronic health problems or dead from preventable disease. Vaccinations are still really important, there have been two measles outbreaks in the past few months and thats scary. You can ask for Vaccines without thermosil in them, (thats the Mercury-what some parents think causes Autism) and you can ask for an alternate schedual-but its strictly your choice and frankly its a tough one.

I have done a lot of research on this topic. There is no conclusive evidence that vaccines are linked to autism. What really is going on, is that right about the time vaccines changed they widened the autism spectrum. This means that LOTS more kids were diagnosed as having autism that previously were diagnosed as having something else. It is just a coincidence that the two happened at the same time. Autism has such a wide range now, so it looks like TONS more kids have it now, than in previous years, but really it is just that very mild cases are reported, so it looks bad. There is a lot of info out there, really you should talk to your pedi doc and see if s/he has a good website or book. In my opinion (and I am just a mom) PLEASE vaccinate your kids! There are so many other issues out there, besides autism. My little girl was diagnosed with neuroblastoma (a very rare and aggressive cancer) about 2 months ago. She can't have her vaccines now because of the chemo and having no immuno defenses. Something even as small as Chicken Pox could do a lot of damage to her now, we have to be so careful. Also, I am an elementary school teacher, if you don't vaccinate your kids you are in for a world of hurt when they start school, I am not even sure they are allowed at school unless they have been vaccinated, or you sign some paper saying if your kid gets sick too bad for you.

I have a 10 week old son, he is my youngest of 4. My husband and I have decided to not have this child vaccinated, for fear of the possible outcome; Autism. We may go ahead to vacinate when he is 5 and entering kindergarten. For if the risks associated with vacinating a very small child (baby) are miniscual then vacination at age 5 and 50+ lbs makes that miniscual chance that much smaller. The dr.s that he has seem so far are so driven to poke at him. On his 2 month well baby check the dr. and I went rounds about my decision to not vacinate. He kept telling that there is no proof that the vaccines are harmful, and that the benefits outweighed the risks. Yadda yadda dude leave me alone!!! Has anyone of you had to deal with a dr. trying to convince you to vaccinate your child??? Light and Love, Darla

you are right about the mercury being the concern in the vaccines, however all the typical childhood vaccines have been reformulated in the last 10 years to eliminate the mercury in them. It was used as a preservative, but not anymore. Most vaccines come in a single dose vial, but not all. So there are some that hold multiple doses, but new needles and syringes should be used EVERY time. You're not crazy to ask to see the vials, or shake it yourself. It's your child and their well being that you are trying to protect. As a doctor that does this on a daily basis, I am surprised that I have not had more mom's like you.

I wrote about my son who is autistic he is 12 on the autism spectrum subject. You can read that It is associated with shots because they put Mercury in the shot vaccines. There are sometimes when they don't shake up the shots enough and they also reuse the same vial of medicine for many kids. If it is not mixed enough it can all go to one kid. Lead poison is what it is. I think they are not using mercury as much now. My son was born in 1996. I have chosen not to get anymore shots for my kids. I understand this is risky and don't suggest it. Something you can do is no matter how stupid your doctor makes you ffeel for it, tell the people giving you kids shots that you want a NEW VIAL, YOU WANT IT OPENED IN FRONT OF YOU AND YOU WANT TO BE PRESENT THE ENTIRE TIME FROM THE OPENING TO THE NEEDLE GETTING THE MED TO THE CHILD GETTING THE SHOT. YOU ALSO WANT TO PERSONALLY SHAKE THE VIAL YOURSELF BEFORE IT IS OPENED. They may roll their eyes and think you are crazy but YOU ARE RIGHT!!!!!! Remember this is your child and you will protect them like a lion. Also many shots are not necessary at such an early age. Find out by reading not from taking the doctors word for it which ones are not necessary right away. The MMR at 18 months is the one to really watch for. Like peer pressure if you don't take precautions you may end up with a child who is autistic. THE SHOTS MUST HAVE SOMETHING TO IT BECAUSE I as well as many others have one kid who is not autistic and one who is. Different doctors and the shots were given at different times in their lives. Many families have autistic kids now ONE IN 140 KIDS ARE DIAGNOSED WITH AUTISM NOW. That tells me that it is something besides genetics. It has not always been that way. I will post the stats on autism.

hey there! i saw your post and wanted to try and answer your question about the autism vaccine connection. Autism does have a genetic component to it, but is not the sole cause...and the same with vaccines they play a role, but is not the sole cause. Jenny has used the example of diabetes....you have a genetic predisposition to it, but the trigger would be becoming overweight. These kids have a genetic predisposition to having a weaker immune/body system, and vaccines (the toxins in them) are the trigger. Now I am not a doctor and claim only to know what happened in my own child. Hope that helps I could go on for pages, but if you want to know more go to autism. com or generationrescue.com or safeminds.com

I saw Jenny on the Chelsea Lately show last night. I was wondering if someone could explain how autism was related to vaccinations? I had always thought that autism was a type of genetic disorder, obviously I don't know much on the subject. What steps do I take to help prevent autism in my children? Thanks
